Modern aesthetic applications are rapidly rising, and ‘non-surgical rhinoplasty’ opens a new page in our understanding of beauty. The key elements of this innovative method, known as liquid rhinoplasty, including its risks, side effects, cost, how it is performed, and what to pay attention to, will be discussed.

What is Non-Surgical Nose Job?

Non-surgical nose job, is a nose shaping procedure done using injectable fillers to make minor adjustments to the nose’s shape. This method, which does not require surgery, is usually quick and relatively painless. The procedure can be preferred for specific changes such as straightening the nasal bridge, lifting the nose tip, or correcting the symmetry of the nostrils.

What is Liquid Rhinoplasty?

Liquid Rhinoplasty is a non-surgical nose shaping procedure. In this method, hyaluronic acid-based fillers are injected.

Is Liquid Rhinoplasty Risky?

Liquid rhinoplasty is performed using FDA-approved dermal fillers. However, the FDA has not approved the injection of liquid silicone or silicone gel to fill wrinkles or augment tissues in the body.

Although liquid rhinoplasty is generally considered safe, rare allergic reactions to the fillers used can occur.

Infections, temporary swelling, and bruising post-injection are observed. Sometimes, incorrect placement of the filler can obstruct blood flow to nasal tissues, leading to skin tissue death and unwanted complications.

The procedure does not thin or reduce the physical structure of the nose since it adds volume to the nose structure and reshapes the nose contours. If a person is not satisfied with the results, hyaluronidase, an enzymatic agent, is injected to rapidly diminish the effects of the dermal fillers used in the procedure.

Hyaluronidase quickly breaks down hyaluronic acid and nullifies the effect of the filler. This is a common and effective method to reverse the results of liquid rhinoplasty. However, this process is only applicable to hyaluronic acid-based fillers and may require different methods for other types of fillers.

What are the Side Effects and Complications?

Temporary and generally mild symptoms such as pain, redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site are common. Allergic reactions to the fillers or infections due to non-sterile application conditions can occur.

More serious complications can include tissue damage due to incorrect placement of the filler, skin necrosis (death of skin tissue), or severe complications and even blindness if the filler is injected into a blood vessel. However, mild symptoms such as swelling, bruising, and pain at the injection site are more common.

Who is Suitable for It?

Individuals wanting to correct minor nasal flaws such as small bumps, curvature, or drooping of the nose tip, those with realistic expectations, seeking a temporary solution without any serious health issues, people not yet considering surgical intervention or afraid of surgery but desiring aesthetic changes, and patients dissatisfied with the results of rhinoplasty are suitable candidates for non-surgical nose jobs.

Additionally, since this method involves reshaping using fillers, it can straighten the nasal bridge or correct the shape of the nose tip, but it cannot alter structural features like wide nasal flares.

How Long Does Liquid Rhinoplasty Last?

The procedure is quite quick, lasting about 15 to 30 minutes. The effects of such fillers can last between 6 to 18 months. The procedure can be repeated as the effects start to diminish. Frequent filler applications over a long period can have adverse effects on the tissues.

Liquid rhinoplasty is generally not a permanent procedure. Dermal fillers used in this procedure, such as hyaluronic acid, are absorbed by the body over time, making their effects temporary. However, there are permanent nose fillers available, made from materials that are not absorbed by the body.

What Should Be Considered After Liquid Rhinoplasty?

It’s important to avoid heavy exercise, saunas, and applying excessive pressure on the face. Within the first 24 hours after the procedure, the face can be gently washed using a soft cleanser.

Avoid direct harsh water flow on the nose and do not use high-temperature water. Showering while avoiding extreme heat and pressure is fine.

Lying on the back with the head elevated for a few days post-procedure is crucial. This position helps reduce swelling and bruising in the nasal area. Avoid sleeping on the side, as this can put pressure on the newly shaped nose and cause the filler to shift.

Mild headaches post-procedure are a temporary side effect of the injection and usually resolve quickly. Wearing glasses, especially in the first few days, is not recommended.

Alcohol consumption is advised against in the first 24-48 hours post-procedure as it can increase bleeding, bruising, and swelling in the body. Similarly, caffeine can raise blood pressure and may increase bleeding in some individuals. Avoid excessive caffeine consumption for a few days after the procedure.

Avoid excessive use of facial muscles in the first few hours or days. Smiling or light facial expressions are harmless, but extremes should be avoided.

Filler migration can sometimes occur, also known as the migration of the filler. This usually happens within the first few days after injection. It can be caused by incorrect injection techniques, using too much filler, or certain activities post-procedure. Therefore, avoiding excessive facial movements, pressure, and heavy exercises after the procedure is important.
